Coaching centres set up for class X students in SWGH

TURA: Concerned over the dismal performance by the students of the district and very low pass percentage in the SSLC examination 2019, South West Garo Hills District Administration under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Ramkumar S, has started coaching classes for class X students free of cost in the 24 coaching centres across the district.

This initiative in collaboration with the DSEO, SDSEO, BMCs, CRCs and heads of educational institutions of the district, is aimed at enhancing the performance and improving the pass percentage of class X students of the district in the SSLC examination 2020. A meeting to this effect was held shortly after the declaration of results of SSLC examination 2019 under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner and resolved to set up 24 coaching centres which have already started functioning since May 18, last.

For the convenience of both the teachers as well as students, the coaching classes are conducted from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm on Saturdays from May 18 to June 15, 2019. However after June 15 classes have been temporarily suspended for half yearly examination and summer vacations in the schools and will resume from first week of August till October 2019 before the commencement of SSLC Selection Test. Thereafter the classes will resume for the selected SSLC candidates till February 2020.

Three subjects, namely, English, Mathematics and Science are being taught in these free coaching centres and the most efficient teachers of these three subjects from various schools of the district have been recruited for the purpose.

Out of the 24 coaching centres, 17 have nearby schools clubbed to them according to the convenience of the students. These are Ampati Govt H.S. School, Springfield H.S.School Ampati, Betasing H.S.School, Monabari Sec. School, Garobadha Def.H.S.School, Nirupama Memorial Sec.School, Mellim Def. Sec. School, Okkapara Sec. School, Mahendraganj Def. Sec. School, Nogorpara Def. Sec. School, Good Shepherd Sec. School, Zikzak Sec. School, Babelapara H.S. School, Gopinathkilla Sec. School, Kalaipara H.S. School, Salmanpara Sec. School and Boldamgre Def. Sec. School. On the other hand seven single coaching centres have been allotted to those schools that are located in far flung areas and these are Rongsang Abagre Sec. School, Harigaon Sec. School, United Mukdangra Sec. School, Rangsakona Def. Sec. School, Badupara Sec. School, Damalgre Sec. School and Chelapara Sec. School.

It was also decided in the meeting that BMCs and CRCs would visit these coaching centres monthly to collect the progress report of the students from the respective heads of the centres and that class tests would be taken to evaluate the progress of the students after the completion of each chapter.

The Deputy Commissioner has himself inspected these coaching centres and interacted with those students undergoing coaching along with the Education officials of the district.
