Coal laden truck capsizes on road in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH: One illegal coal laden truck was detected by the Ri Bhoi police on Thursday morning at Jatah village under Umsohlait Police Station in Ri Bhoi District. Transportation of extracted coal in Meghalaya is considered violation of the standing Supreme Court order that bans transportation coal in the state.

 According to police sources, the truck bearing registration number ML04C 6884 which was illegally transporting coal was noticed after it capsized along the Umsning-Jagiroad route on reaching Jatah village at around 3 AM on Thursday.

A case in this regard has been registered at Umsohlait Police Station. The driver and handyman of the truck had fled from the scene and so far no one has come forward to claim ownership of the truck.
