GUWAHATI: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has condemned the visit to Shillong by a delegation from Punjab comprising two members of Parliament and two MLAs to address the Harijan Colony issue on Wednesday.
The delegation visited Harijan Colony to meet the residents in the evening.
“We extensively condemn the visit to Harijan Colony by the delegation from Punjab as such a move will only give fire to the already burning issue. The state government should have been more careful in permitting visits to sensitive areas for security reasons,” Thomas Passah vice president, KHNAM central executive committee, said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
“Our home minister should have assessed the situation accordingly. It is obvious that this delegation from Punjab have visited the area to further worsen the matter. We have already made our stand that we will not tolerate any outside interference on the issue. This is a state issue and needs to be addressed by the state,” Passah said.
“This is not the first instance where residents were relocated from government land to another location. It is to be reminded that in the previous years, residents from Umsawli were removed. So the issue should be measured on the same scale,” he said.
