Mawkyrwat: The general meeting convened by the Mawkyrwat Electricity Consumers Forum (MECF) at Nativity auditorium hall in Mawkyrwat on Thursday decided to oppose tooth and nail against the Odhisa based private firm Feedback Energy Distribution Company Limited (FEDCO) of handling the electricity services in the district.
The forum also vowed not to allow the company to work in the district.
After the meeting, as a mark of confirmation to the decision made, the electricity consumers took a‘protest march’ towards MeECL office amidst heavy rain shouting slogans like “FEDCO go back” and “MeECL continue your work as usual”.
They also added that they will continue to oppose the move of MeECL to handover the electricity services to FEDCO.
MECF chairman, Wallambok Syiemiong, said the decision of the general meeting was a clear message to MeECL officials that the people are against entrusting FEDCO to collect electricity bills.
Syiemiong also demanded from MeECL not to keep the electricity bills pending because it will affect the people.
He added that the forum also urged the people to screen the electricity bill carefully.
“If they find that the bill is from MeECL, they can pay it, but if it is from the private firm, they should go to the MeECL office and ask for the MeECL bill, he said.
The meeting which was attended by leaders of the KSU, FKJGP, HYC, HANM, SSSS, Seng Longkmie and headmen from different villages across South West Khasi Hills district also confirmed the decision of the Executive Committee of MECF recently to close down the office of FEDCO and MeECL at Mawkyrwat.
