JOWAI/Tura: The Meghalaya Training Institute (MATI), Shillong, in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, West Jaintia Hills, orgainsed a two-day training on first aid, search and rescue for government employees of the district at the District Library Auditorium in Mynthong, Jowai on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The programme was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner and CEO, DDMA, Jowai, BJ Kharshandi.
Resources persons from the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Meghalaya Branch, DE Kharshiing, general secretary P Deb, organiser B Thangkiew along with the assistant organiser imparted training on the basics of first-aid, search and rescue.
Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Authority, Baghmara also organised a two-day programme on search and rescue and water rescue for the Volunteers Community Base at Karawani Fishery Pond in Baghmara.
Around 150 volunteers including a team from the State Disaster Response Force, Tura attended the programme.
Various activities were held at different locations such as the picturesque Jawa Wari and Emangre area.
The District Disaster Management Authority, Baghmara also funded a number of life jackets to the care takers of Jawa Wari.
In his address to the gathering, Deputy Commissioner HB Marak spoke about the role and responsibilities of the volunteers while District Disaster Management officer P Ch Marak highlighted the importance of search and rescue operations during floods and other emergencies.
