TURA: Organizations like the AIGU, FAF and GSU (CEC) from East Garo Hills have urged the deputy commissioner of East Garo Hills to initiate preemptive measures following reports about the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) disease in some parts of the region.
In a meeting with deputy commissioner Swapnil Tembe in Williamnagar on Friday, leaders of these organizations called for measures to initiate sufficient awareness to control, prevent or contain the spread of JE in the entire district.
They expressed worry about various illegal constructions taking place within the town of Williamnagar which they said could pose serious problems if not checked.
“Some people have started illegal construction of shops along the main road leading to the Simsang Bridge. The shops are being constructed by encroaching upon the main road leaving no space for footpaths and thus narrowing the road,” informed the leaders of these organizations in their memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
They added that the situation has been aggravated by the dumping of construction materials (bricks, sand, rods) carelessly along the same road causing traffic hindrances.
“In addition, even autos are being parked along the road which adds to the traffic woes. This needs to be taken care of and alternative measures be arranged at the earliest to prevent a major traffic mishap and loss to human lives,” demanded the organization leaders.
