Jaintia Hills delegation meets Dy CM over pending

SHILLONG: A delegation of concerned citizens including two former legislators of  Jaintia Hills met the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to discuss on a pending road project and erratic power supply in remote villages of Jaintia Hills.

The delegation was led by former MLAs, Hopeful Bamon and Stephan Mukhim, along with Kynjaimon Amse, Raja Suchen, Eristone Rymbai, Riborlin Shylla met Prestone Tynsong, the Deputy Chief Minister, in his residence where several issues pertaining rural development in East Jaintia Hills were discussed and deliberated.

At the meeting, Tynsong was apprised about the bad condition of the Rymbai-Bataw-Borkhat-Sonapur Road which has affected the lives of the people living in Hingaria, Huroi, Lahalein and Lejri villages to a very large extend.

They informed him that the DPR prepared by the PWD Roads had been accepted by the NEC, Shillong and the NEC, Shillong had forwarded the Draft SFC Memo of Rymbai-Bataw-Borkhat-Sonapur Road (Length – 39.25 km) at the estimated cost of Rs. 123.28 crore under the NERSDS to the Joint Secretary (NEC), Ministry of DONER, New Delhi for approval of the DONER Ministry.  The project is currently pending for approval by the government of India.

The delegation also said that the matter had been earlier taken up with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya and that there had been undue delay in construction of the road.

They pointed out that the High Court of Meghalaya had taken strong cognizance of the matter and that the matter would be taken up by the High Court again on Monday.

After the intervention of the High Court, the issue for construction of the road has gained speed by both the state Public Works Department (PWD) and North Eastern Council (NEC).

The delegation has urged Tynsong and the state government to take up the matter with Jitendar Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) I/c Ministry of DONER and also the Prime Minister’s Office for speedy approval of the project by the DONER ministry.

Tynsong informed them that the matter very seriously and a committee was also formed to look after the same. He informed that several rounds of meeting had been conducted for this project and also said that all formalities for approving the project was almost complete and also told that the project was sure to get the stamp of approval and sanction by DONER Ministry. He assured us that the decade’s long aspiration of the people would be fulfilled soon.

Besides the road project, the delegation also turned the Deputy Chief Minister’s attention to the construction and development of three roads which include the Lum Myrli-Wah Umpasu Road, Umkiang Pahar Road and the Jowai-Amlarem road.

Discussions were made on the non availability of mobile and internet connectivity in the border villages of East Jaintia Hills District which includes Hingaria, Huroi, Lahalein and Lejri and prayed for his intervention on this matter.

The delegation felt the need to provide electricity by way of grid system through the MeECL to the border villages of Huroi, Hingaria, Lahalein and Lejri as the off grid solar equipments is not of much help to the public.

The issue of irregular supply of electricity to villages in Narpuh Elaka, EJH was also discussed and deliberated. The minister assured that he will consider the matter and that the government will take necessary actions as deem fit.
