GTAC sets up premium tea lounge

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has set-up a premium tea lounge at its premises at G.S. Road, near State’s capital complex at Dispur here.

The lounge will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at 6 PM on Tuesday in presence of Industries & Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

A decision to set-up a tea lounge was taken in a meeting of GTAC chaired by its Chairman Ravi Capoor who is also Additional Chief Secretary Industries & Commerce, Govt of Assam.

“Tea connoisseurs from different parts of the world will have the opportunity to taste and buy different varieties of exquisite Assam tea”, said Dinesh Bihani, Secretary of Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association and Chairman of the GTAC Tea Lounge Trust.

 “Apart from being an exquisite showcase of an array of Assam tea this will be a must visit place in Guwahati for all tea connoisseur and tourist, both internal and abroad” said Dipanjol Deka, Secretary, Tea Association of India and a trustee of the lounge. 

“This lounge will sell single estate origin teas made by tea producers only “, said Bidyananda Barkakoty, Adviser of North Eastern Tea Association (NETA)

This lounge will be a one stop destination to buy garden fresh and authentic Assam tea. There will be two sections in the lounge –  one section will have 40 seating capacity where one can drink different varieties of tea – CTC, Orthodox, Green, White, Purple, Yellow, Oolong, certified organic etc. One can buy different varieties of tea in the second section.

This lounge will also provide information on tea tourism facilities in Assam.

This tea lounge is promoted by all the stakeholders of GTAC along with Tea Board of India, Assam Tourism, NEC and Industries & Commerce Dept of Govt of Assam.
