Pakistan didn’t enter Indian airspace after Balakot: IAF Chief
Gwalior: Air Chief Marshal B.S. Dhanoa has said that Pakistani fighter planes did not enter Indian air space after the February Balakot strike. Talking to the media here the Indian Air Force Chief said: “I want to make it clear that Pakistan never entered the Indian airspace after the Balakot operation. “None of them let me tell you crossed the Line of Control.” He added: “Our objective was to strike in Balakot and we achieved it. Their (Pakistan) objective was to strike our Army areas and they could not. “We achieved our military objective while they did not achieve theirs.” (IANS)


BJD MLA arrested for forcing engineer to do sit-ups
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Monday arrested newly elected BJD MLA Saroj Kumar Meher for allegedly forcing a junior engineer from a tribal community to do sit-ups in public. The incident came to light in the beginning of the month when a purported video went viral showing the MLA asking the PWD engineer to do sit-ups in public. The incident took place in Patnagarh assembly segment on June 5. After statewide furore, Bolangir Collector Arindam Dakua had ordered an enquiry by the sub-collector to verify the allegations. The enquiry report stated that due to sub-standard road construction work, the Patnagarh MLA “punished” Jayakanta Sabar in public and also asked the engineer-in-charge to slap him. Meher was booked under different sections of the IPC based on the FIR filed by the engineer’s wife. Earlier in the day, the police picked up the MLA from a hotel in Nuapada and brought him to Bolangir for questioning. (PTI)


Lovers end lives by jumping in front of train in UP
Kanpur (UP): Two lovers committed suicide by jumping in front of the Lucknow-Jabalpur Express near the Bhimsen railway station here on Monday morning, police said. They took the extreme step after their parents did not agree to their marriage, they said. Both of the deceased were residents of Rampur village, Sachendi, and wanted to marry each other but their families were against the idea, Sachendi station officer, Raghvendra Singh, said. The couple had eloped on Wednesday last week after they failed to persuade their respective families. Their families had been looking for them, he said. Eyewitnesses told police that the duo held hands and jumped before the approaching Lucknow-Jabalpur Express in the early hours, Singh said. (PTI)


CPI-M leader urged to quit over rape case against son
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, here on Monday, asked state CPI-M Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to quit the party post after his son was accused in a rape case. Slamming the CPI-M in the Assembly, the Congress leader said, “If Balakrishnan has any scruple left, he should quit as the CPI-M state secretary. Your party often speaks of upholding high moral ground and finds faults with others.” A team of Mumbai Police reached Kerala on Sunday to arrest Balakrishnan’s son Binoy Kodiyeri, who has been absconding after a rape case was filed against him in Mumbai last week. In the FIR filed at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai’s Andheri area, a 33-year-old woman alleged that Binoy had been sexually exploiting her for several years on the pretext of marriage. Meanwhile, a Mumbai court that was to hear Binoy’s anticipatory bail plea on Monday postponed it to Thursday. (IANS)
