TURA: A man who befriended a young girl in the plains belt region of Garo Hills is absconding after abducting and sexually abusing her, this week.The accused Abul Kalam from Phulbari region lured the 21 year old tribal girl with a false promise of marriage, it is alleged.
He convinced her to elope with him and she disappeared from her home in a nearby village on the 19th of this month.The accused is alleged to have taken her to Guwahati where he committed the crime.He returned this week and abandoned the woman in Chibinang village and has not been seen since.
The girl was later brought back home and her father filed a police complaint against the accused Kalam who is on the run.Cases of young girls being duped with false promises of love and marriage is becoming a major social problem in the region where unsuspecting girls are preyed upon by unscrupulous persons out to do harm.
