MAWKYRWAT: Mawkyrwat MLA and Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Chairman Renik L Tongkhar, on Monday sought the intervention of the Power Minister, James K Sangma into the issue of electrical services here.
Tongkhar requested him to withdraw the Odhisa based-firm Feedback Energy Distribution Company Limited (FEDCO) from Mawkyrwat.
“I hope you are aware that people from Mawkyrwat are protesting against MePDCL for handing over work to FEDCO and they have formed a consumer forum known as Mawkyrwat Electrical Consumer Forum. Members of this forum have even locked FEDCO’s office,” Tongkhar said in a letter to the Power Minister.
“To avoid more complications and to maintain the law and order in Mawkyrwat, I request you to withdraw the contract from FEDCO and ensure that MePDCL resumes services as before,” Tongkhar added.
It may be mentioned that the MECF had locked the office of FEDCO and MeECL at Mawkyrwat on June 18 in protest against the handing over of electricity services to FEDCO.
MECF, an umbrella of the KSU, FKJGP, HYC, HANM, SSSS, Seng Longkmie and Headmen from across South West Khasi Hills had maintain that they will accept FEDCO only if it is operational in the whole state.
