ADCs meet on 6th Schedule amendment inconclusive

SHILLONG: The meeting of the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills to discuss on the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution remained inconclusive and the three ADCs will sit for the third time in the first or second week of July.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting on Wednesday, Chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), PN Syiem said the meeting was inconclusive as there are wide range of issues such as on nominated MDC, election to village councils and others.
Chief Executive Member of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Dipul Marak said the three ADCs will meet again and then proceed to Delhi.
The members at the meeting also discussed on Article 280 of the Indian Constitution which deals with the establishment of Finance Commission.
Syiem said, “Once District Councils are included in Article 280 then we will have regular funding which is not nominal but it will be based on population of the respective district council.”
