SHILLONG: 14 Assam Rifles personnel were conferred with the Governor’s Gold and Silver Medals for Gallantry and Distinguished service by Governor Tathagata Roy at the Investiture Ceremony at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
The ceremony was witnessed by a number of civilian and military dignitaries. The Governor’s Gold & Silver Medals were instituted in the year 1957 and are awarded in recognition of the acts of gallantry and meritorious service by the personnel of Assam Rifles in the Northeastern states.
Speaking at the event, the governor lauded the yeoman service and dedication to duty exhibited by the Assam Rifles over the past 184 years while operating in the rugged and inhospitable terrain of the North East. He also paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the soldiers and exhorted them to continue the excellent work.
