Biomedical waste management authorisation

MAWKYRWAT: The Member Secretary of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board through the office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills district has intimated those who generate, collect, receive, store, transport, treat, dispose, or handle biomedical waste (BMW) in any form, including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, dispensaries, veterinary institutions, animal houses, pathological laboratories, blood banks, Ayush medical or surgical camps, vaccination camps and others irrespective of the size/number of patients and quantity of BMW generated need to apply in Form II to the Board for grant of authorisation.
Those who have not complied with the rules will have to do so within a month from the date of publication of the notice and failure to do so will attract penalty as per provisions of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 which includes imprisonment for a period of five years or a fine of Rs 1 lakh or both.
