SHILLONG: The Director of Blind Lead Trust, Jitendra Dkhar, has petitioned the Chief Justice of India against judicial magistrate Ranee M Kharsyntiew over the alleged assault issue.
Copies of the letter were also sent to Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya and the National Human Rights Commission.
In his letter sent on June 28, Dkhar alleged that since the house owner Vennetta Kharsyntiew wanted them to vacate the rented place at Ranee’s Abode, Lachumiere, water was not being supplied to the inmates regularly.
He pointed out that particularly from May 25-30, water was not provided to them. Dkhar, who is also visually impaired, said many times the issue of irregular supply of water was brought to the notice of the house owner but in vain.
He said when there was training for several visually impaired students at the rented place, they had a harrowing time since there was no water.
The letter said on June 20, the American aid worker and their mentor Theodore Moallem went upstairs and switched on green button of the water pump for water which had resulted in the scuffle.
According to Dkhar, Vennetta, her daughter Ranee and son-in law had assaulted Moallem.
This, however, was denied by the trio as they had maintained that it was Moallem, who had assaulted them.
However, the Blind Trust chief sought the intervention of the chief justice for the alleged misconduct by the judicial magistrate, who is posted in Tura.
Dkhar also said when Moallem went along with the visually impaired people to file an FIR on June 21 at Laitumkhrah police station, he was arrested by the police.
Dkhar said it was strange that the police did not arrest Moallem on June 20 but the arrest was made the next day only when he went to file the FIR against the house owner.
The letter also mentioned that the FIR filed by him was not registered by the police hinting alleged unfair stand by the police.
