NONGPOH: In a case which may have shivered the daily customers of Amit Restaurant in Nongpoh, one customer found a maggot in one of the jalebis bought from a restaurant located at the heart of Nongpoh town.
The customer, who did not want to be named, informed The Shillong Times that on the evening of June 28, he bought 250 grams of jalebi from Amit Restaurant.
However, on reaching home, while his children were opening the package, his wife shockingly saw a maggot which was fried inside a jalebi.
“Luckily, my wife saw this maggot before my children consumed the jalebis with it, otherwise it would have affected my children’s health, as well as the other customers who visited this restaurant frequently,” the customer said.
He also informed that a complaint in this regard has been lodged with the Food Safety Officer of Ri Bhoi urging him to take action and to ensure that restaurants and shops selling food items across the district maintain cleanliness and serve fresh and healthy food to the customers.
