Central team visits NEIGRIHMS over setting up of CBRN facility
SHILLONG: A team of officials visited NEIGRIHMS on June 27 to deliberate on the feasibility of setting up a secondary level CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear) Medical Management centre and skill centre in the institute. The team comprised of P Ravindran, Addl. DDG & Director, EMR, Dte, GHS, Sh. Rajeev Kanaujia, Sr. Architect, CDB, MoHFW and S D Mazumder, Senior Regional Director, ROH & FW, DGHS. The initiative is a part of the government’s plan for preparedness to manage eventualities arising out of CBRN situations. Across the country, 33 Secondary level CBRN and skill centres and 4 apex level centres are planned. The team inspected the earmarked space for the proposed facility.
Sec 144 promulgated against office picketing in Tura
TURA: The District Magistrate, Swapnil Tembe has, on Monday, promulgated Section 144 of the CrPC in the entire district with immediate effect prohibiting obstruction and disruption to functioning of government offices, carrying of lathis, sticks, stones, missiles, fire-arms or kind of lethal weapons by any person, group of persons or organisations. This decision was taken in view of the proposed two-day office picketing of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Williamnagar by a group of students and social organisations led by the GSU, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. The official release issued in this regard stated that such obstructions or intimidations are likely to lead to breach of peace which may result in disturbance of public tranquility, leading to injury, lost of property and riot or affray. The release further informed that in case of violation of the order, the court may not only proceed under the Contempt of Courts Act, but is also directed that the State Government shall register criminal cases under the appropriate provisions of law.
Awareness on drug abuse
SHILLONG: The NSS Unit of Shillong College organised an awareness programme in collaboration with Rovers and Rangers of Shillong College and the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology, Nazareth Hospital, Shillong on June 24. The programme was organised on the theme ‘Listen First-Listening to Children and Youth is the First Step to Help them Grow Healthy and Safe’, to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the college campus.
National Statistics Day observed
SHILLONG: The National Statistical Office, Shillong organised an awareness programme on the occasion of the National Statistics Day celebration at St Anthony’s College, Shillong on June 29. The theme for the celebration was “Sustainable Development Goals”. Government officials, professors from NEHU, St Anthony’s College, Shillong College and Sankardev College were invited to attend the programme and make presentations and deliver oration to sensitise Mahalanobis’ role in the development of Indian Statistical System. The programme aimed to raise people’s awareness on the importance of statistics in the various fields of life and elicit their cooperation in providing accurate information regarding statistical data. Prof SK Jha of NEHU presented a detailed power point presentation depicting the Meghalayan Age and how changes started to take place.
‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ launched
TURA: As part of the Pan India Campaign, the Commissioner and Secretary, Community and Rural Department (C& RD), Meghalaya, Shillong, P Sampath Kumar along with CEO, MSRLS, Shantanu Sharma launched the “Jal Shakti Abhiyan” in Tura on Monday. The Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) is a nationwide water campaign launched by the Government of India from July 1 to September 15, 2019. The campaign aims to target water stressed areas for stocktaking and conservation initiatives since India faces deficit monsoon season and widespread water shortages, and also to increase the water table in these areas. In view of this, a review meeting of all deputy commissioners of eleven districts was held simultaneously through video conference from NIC, Tura. Deputy Commissioners, Project Directors, Block Development Officers and other officials of the respective districts attended the meeting.
Lynching of man condemned
SHILLONG: The New Baithbari Markaz in Rajabala constituency recently organised a protest to condemn the lynching of Tabrez Ansari who was assaulted on the accusation of theft and forced to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’ in Jharkhand. The protest was held on Friday which saw the participation of many.
