Harijan Colony inventorisation deadline expires today
SHILLONG: The High Level Committee (HLC) will meet on Thursday to discuss the way forward on the Harijan Colony relocation issue and the order of the High Court of Meghalaya asking residents to submit relevant papers to Shillong Municipal Board.
An official source said the issue related to granting extension for the residents to submit the papers will also be discussed as the month-long deadline expires on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has asserted that the state government has every right legally and constitutionally to know who are the permanent and non-permanent settlers of Harijan Colony.
Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, Tynsong said that the review petition filed by the state government was taken up by the High Court and it was convinced that inventorisation in the colony should take place.
He, however, maintained that the certified copy of the order is likely to be received by the government in a couple of days.
Tynsong said that people staying in the locality did not turn up for the inventorisation exercise on both the occasions despite the government’s request.
It may be recalled that it is over a year now since the HLC was constituted after trouble broke out at Harijan Colony and the demand for relocation of the residents grew louder. The solution is still out of sight despite the HLC having sat for numerous meetings.
