BSNL calls media reports baseless
SHILLONG: The Assistant General Manager (Mktg), Office of the CGMT, NE-I Circle, BSNL, Shillong, has informed that recent reports in some sections of the media, conveying an impression that BSNL may be closed down, are baseless and false. In a statement issued here, he said that the Centre recognises BSNL as a strategic Public Sector Unit while Department of Telecommunications (DoT) values the inherent strength of BSNL as telecom provider with huge infrastructure and reach, including rural areas. Further, DoT is in process of finalising a proposal for revival of BSNL.

Workshop on child safety held
SHILLONG: MLCU Academics Office in collaboration with Faith Foundation conducted a two-day workshop on ‘Child Protection and Safety’ starting Monday in the University’s premises. The workshop was attended by 35 members of the University’s faculty. Throughout the two days, there were presentations and discussions on the various topics and elements encompassing child rights, the fundamental ones being the rights to survival, protection, development and participation.

Park shut down over scuffle
TURA: The administration in Tura have shutdown an amusement park that had been entrenched for close to two months at the town’s police parade ground on Tuesday following a scuffle that broke out between the management of the park and local volunteers over payment of salaries. A ruckus reportedly broke out on Tuesday evening during peak show time at the parade ground after some disgruntled volunteers expressed their resentment with the management over what they claimed were unpaid wages. The situation was later brought under control by police. “In view of the situation we have decided to close down the Mela and ordered for its removal,” informed the SP.

Govt holds review meet in Tura
TURA: In an effort to provide better service to the people of the region, the Commissioner of Division, Garo Hills Division, P Sampath Kumar reviewed the status and progress of the implementation of various projects with regard to the Community and Rural Development, Education, Health, ICDS and Swachh Bharat Mission in the respective districts. CEO, MSRLS, Shantanu Sharma, deputy commissioners of all districts and project directors were among others who attended the meeting.

Lok Adalat on July 13
TURA: The Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Garo Hills, Tura has informed that National Lok Adalat will be organised on all subject matters on July 13 at 10 am in the new building of District and Sessions Judge premises, behind DC Office, Akonggre. In this regard, all concerned who have received summons and notices from the court to attend the National Lok Adalat for settlement or disposal of their cases are requested to be present on the date and venue mentioned.
