TURA: The son of a grocery store owner sustained a bullet wound on his leg while fighting off criminals who tried to snatch his bag containing the day’s earnings at Chibinang town of Phulbari in West Garo Hills on Tuesday night.
According to police, the trader Shah Alom Akond of Kalapnai village in Chibinang was returning from his store at Chibinang market in the plain belt region around 8.30 pm when the incident took place.
As the trader and his son, Raihan Akond were walking home three unidentified men suddenly appeared in the dark and tried to snatch the bag that the son was carrying. As the father and son duo fought off the robbers, one of the criminals fired a shot from a country-made pistol hitting Alom’s son Raihan on his left heel. Two of the criminals were reportedly wearing helmets while the third had concealed his face with a mask. Two of the robbers fled away on foot while a third scooted on a motorbike.
The victim was later taken to Phulbari health centre for treatment where doctors declared him out of danger. Police have beefed security in the Chibinang area and a search is on to nab the gang behind the deed.
