TURA: Organizations from Gasuapara Block in South Garo Hills along with the local people have written to the Executive Engineer (NH) of Baghmara Division alleging lackadaisical attitude of contractors as well as the concerned department with regard to construction of roads in the area.

The letter jointly written by the Gasuapara Area Citizens’ Forum, GSU, Ruga Regional Unit and ADE Gasuapara Regional Unit was submitted to the official on Thursday.

According to the organizations, stretches of roads along NH-62 have been left unattended for a long time although allotment of work for the same has already been made. These roads include the Dimapara to Cherengpara, Gasuapara to Dumnikura and Sibbari to Eringgre roads.

“The integrity of contractors and the concerned department is questionable as to why no action for their repair has been taken so far for which allotment was made on May 18 in 2017. The pathetic condition of NH 62 has become an ordeal triggering annoyance and anger among the general public especially the students,” the organizations said.

They added that with the onset of monsoon, the condition of NH-62 had worsened causing immense hardships to the people.“These stretches of the national highway need urgent repair and work on them should be undertaken on a war footing to enable vehicles carrying essential commodities like foodgrains and ambulances to easily pass through,” the organizations said while demanding repair works are immediately carried out.
