Delhi postpones remedial lessons for class 10, 12 students
New Delhi: The Delhi government on Wednesday postponed remedial classes for students of class 10 and 12 until further notice, due to the hot weather in the city. The direction came after the Directorate of Education extended till July 7 the summer break for students up to class 8. Delhi Education Minister said the step was taken ‘keeping in mind the extreme heat wave in Delhi’. ‘I have directed the DoE to postpone remedial classes for Grade 10 and 12 until further notice. We care about the health of all our students as well as our teachers,’ Sisodia tweeted with the notice. (IANS)
Four bodies of mountaineers brought to Munsyari base camp
New Delhi: The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Wednesday brought four of the seven bodies of missing mountaineers to Uttarakhand’s Munsyari base camp 1 by IAF helicopters. ‘The remaining three bodies are being carried and all bodies will be brought to Pithoragarh by today noon,’ ITBP spokesperson Vivek Pandey told. On Tuesday, after 12 hours operation, the dead bodies were taken to the ITBP base camp 1. Last week, the ITBP search team recovered seven bodies of the eight missing mountaineers who were on the way to Nanda Devi. The bodies were found roped in together while the eighth body could not be located. (IANS)
Goa civic body to pay Rs 1,000 for reporting litterers
Panaji: Taking a leaf out of a now-defunct police vigilante app, the municipal council of Margao town in South Goa on Wednesday launched a scheme to pay Rs 1,000 to the citizens who report illegal dumping of garbage through a photo or video tip via Whatsapp. ‘We will give the informant Rs 1,000 for reporting a violation by sending a photo or video to the special phone number, 8390208406, set up by the municipality. The person who is illegally dumping garbage will be fined Rs 5,000,’ Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik told reporters at a press conference held in Margao, located 35 km from Panaji. With population of nearly a lakh, Margao, often referred as the commercial capital of Goa, has been facing with a garbage disposal crisis. It was accentuated after a garbage dump at Sonsodo on the outskirts of the town caught fire some weeks back. (IANS)
UP cops bring ‘employment offer’ to common man
Balrampur (Uttar Pradesh): Want to earn thousands of rupees sitting at home? The Balrampur police in Uttar Pradesh have an offer for you. According to a pamphlet released by Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Varma, the cops have launched a ‘Mukhbir Rozgar Yojana” (witness employment scheme) under which those giving information about criminals and their activities will be given monetary rewards. The police pamphlet also lists the quantum of reward money for various types of information. Helping the police to track down a stolen car will bring a reward of Rs 1,000 and the same amount will be given for getting the police to recover a country-made firearm, popularly known as ‘katta’. Information and recovery of an unlicensed revolver or pistol will carry a reward of Rs 5,000. (IANS)
Oman Air flight makes emergency landing in Mumbai
Mumbai: An Oman Air Mumbai-Muscat flight, with over 200 people on board, safely made an emergency landing at Mumbai Airport on Wednesday evening following engine failure shortly after take-off, official sources said. Flight WY204, which had taken off around 4.15 pm, was barely airborne for 10 minutes when one of its engines failed, forcing it to return. (IANS)
Two youth found dead in J&K
Srinagar: Two youth were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag town on Wednesday. Police identified one of them as a resident of Anantnag and the other as belonging to Kishtwar district of Jammu division. Police found both the bodies in a graveyard in Sherbagh locality. Police suspect that the deaths occurred due to some drug overdose but said that the actual cause of death can be ascertained only after an autopsy. (IANS)
Drone seized near jail
Jammu: A drone, which was hovering over a high security jail in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, has been seized after it crashed, officials said Wednesday. The drone was seized on Tuesday evening and an investigation into the incident was underway, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar, Shakti Pathak said. Officials believe that the drone was one of the many being used to locate victims of the deadly road accident in Keshwan area of the district on Monday that left 35 persons dead and over a dozen others injured. One of the drones was lost during the search and rescue operation due to a technical fault, and it is believed that the same drone was found near the jail complex, the officials said. (PTI)
