SHILLONG: A picture of a lake, purportedly of Umiam, full of waste and dirt went viral on social media on Friday.
The picture, supported by writing claiming that it was taken in Umiam lake, showed the entire lake was full of waste – bottles and plastic – and dirt.
When contacted, officials said that they would send their people to the lake on Saturday to check the veracity of the picture and the claim. It was also informed that similar pictures were shared a few years back.
