Agartala: At least eight BJP workers were injured severely and 20 motorbikes were burned down at Bhagyapur village of Dharmanagar in North Tripura on Sunday, when allegedly a group of CPI (M) cadres attacked them during the three-tire election campaign.
The BJP Loksabha MP and State General Secretary Pratima Bhowmik alleged that their workers had been attacked by the opposition CPI (M) in broad daylight and the attackers in their desperation did not even bother the presence of police force. She said all the injured have been shifted to a local hospital. However, two of them, who were stated to be critical have been referred to a hospital outside Tripura for immediate surgical intervention.
The district leaders of BJP including Deputy Speaker Biswabandhu Sen visited the spot and administration has made extra deployment to maintain law and order.
“The attackers were heavily armed and set the motorbikes on fire. It seems CPI (M) workers have been well prepared to unleash terror in the locality,” Bhowmik stated.
The opposition parties had been creating terror and violence since the new government came in power last year, she stated, adding that CPI (M) has been accusing BJP of preventing them from participating in the election but today’s attack proved otherwise. (UNI)
