Nongstoin college gets additional infrastructure

NONGSTOIN: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the additional building of Nongstoin College at the college premises on Wednesday in the presence of Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat.
The two important projects was funded by RUSA under phase-I at Rs two crore and from DONER under phase II worth Rs 2,18,65,000 crore.
The chief minister inaugurated the Academic Block II and ground floor of the college, boys hostel, library and archives first floor, students common room, additional class room and library extension ground & first floor.
While speaking on the occasion, Byrsat who was also the former joint secretary of the college said that Nongstoin College was founded by the office of U Syiem ka Hima Nongstoin. He added that for the interest of the students and the public as well, the college should be provincialised.
Addressing the programme, the Chief Minister said that the Government have decided to create more sanction post in the college. A discussion will be held with the sponsoring body and the college managing committee.
“Education is an important priority for the Government, the Education Policy is an initiative to address the challenges as well as enhance better infrastructure and facilities. There are several constraints in the education sector, however, we have embarked on a mission to strategise measures to resolve the problems of the teachers, who are the backbone for our society,” he added.
He informed the gathering that the Government in its endeavour to ensure equitable development of all region has envisioned to give special attention and thrust to districts, which are lagging behind. He also commended the teaching staff of the college.
Conrad further stated that the government will make improvements in all sections but due to financial constraint, it could not attain.
Others present were the principal of the college Dr. I. Mawthoh,WKH DC T. Lyngwa, WKH SP BJ Laloo, among others.
