World peace and harmony fest
SHILLONG: The Shillong centre of ISKCON will hold “Holy Name Festival for World Peace” on July 13 and 14 in Shillong with a series of programmes. There will be procession on July 13 from ISKCON Centre, R.R Colony, crossing BSNL quarters, R.R Colony main road, Dayamayee Kali Mandir and R.R Colony Puja Mandap(culminating point). At 5 30 pm there will be religious discourse with students on “Bhagwat Gita” by Amogh Lila Das from New Delhi. On July 14, at 2:30pm, there will be procession with chanting of holy names and the route will be from parking Lot, Opposite CTO Building, Vivekananda Road crossing IGP point, PWD point, Keating Road, Police Bazar point, MTC, Jail Road Petrol Pump, Jail Road Bazar, and Jail Road Puja Mandap (culminating point) The concluding function will be held on July 14 at 5pm at Jail Road, Puja Mandap, where devotees and delegates from foreign countries like USA and Ukraine will also participate in the “Sadhu Sangotsav” (religious discourses). Health Minister A L Hek will be the chief guest.

World Population Day observed
NONGPOH/SHILLONG: The Office of the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi, Nongpoh launched the Population Stabilisation Fortnight 2019 on Thursday to mark the World Population Day. The DMHO, East Khasi Hills launched the programme at Sohryngkham Community Hall, Lulong, Sohryngkham, East Khasi Hills District and the Nongpoh DMHO organised it at Civil Hospital Conference Hall, Nongpoh. RM Kurbah, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh graced the occasion as the chief guest in the presence of Dr M Mawrie, DM&HO. The programme was also attended by doctors, medical officers, supervisors, ANM and block unit. Meanwhile, in EKH the programme was attended by David Nongrum, MLA, Mawryngkneng Constituency in the presence of R. Wahlang, BDO, Mawryngkneng, CR&D Block, Dr J.B Ranee, Additional DMHO, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, A Kharduit, Senior Medical and Health Officer, i/c Mawryngkneng PHC, village Headman, heath officials, ASHAs, anganwadi workers, elders, teachers and students among others.

Programme on ventures
SHILLONG: Birac Regional Techno-Entrepreneurship Promotion Centre (BRTC) has designed multiple programmes to foster an entrepreneurial venture and provide employment opportunities to the youths, a release issued here informed. To begin with, it is throwing up road shows in the towns and cities to popularise various startup schemes as a fundamental requirement for the benefit of the target population. This (BRTC) bio-entrepreneurship promotion platform was formed by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), a public sector not for profit company under the aegis of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India in collaboration with Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) – Technology Business Incubator (TBI), Bhubaneswar to enable and empower the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the East and Northeast. In order to augment the youths’ skills, workshops and trainings are in place while design workshops would handhold and train the budding entrepreneurs in their journey towards establishing a successful enterprise, the statement read.
