SHILLONG: The Eastern Ri-Bhoi Development Forum (ERBDF) met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday and informed him that the farmers who fell victim to last year’s hailstone disaster have not received compensation for their losses till date.
The leaders informed that headmen of respective villages have submitted a report to Umsning C&RD Block for compensation.
It may be mentioned that, hailstones had hit areas of eastern Ri-Bhoi which has 110 villages on October 25 last year affecting around 220 farmers.
Meanwhile, the chief minister assured the delegation that he will look into the matter and will try to speed up the compensation assistance to the farmers.
On the other hand, Sangma was also apprised of the need to set up a government college in the area, better road connectivity in the form of four lane highways, insufficient water supply, setting up of traffic and excise branch along with the upgradation of the health sub-center.
In view of the National Games 2022 to be hosted by the state, the organisation expressed concern over the absence of an indoor stadium in eastern Ri-Bhoi and urged Sangma to look into the matter as well.
