Army clears air on recruitment of North East youths
SHILLONG: The Army said on Friday that Brigadier VM Sharma, Deputy Director General, NE has been mis-quoted as lamenting that the Army has not been encouraging the entry of candidates from certain states in the NE including Meghalaya. Howevever, in a statement issued, the Army said what Brigadier Sharma said and meant was that the Army has been taking all possible measures through various forums including media to create awareness and motivate the youths of NE States including, Meghalaya to join Indian Army and that its necessary for the Civil Administration in these states to further complement the effort put in by Army for creating awareness in the youth about Army.
JH youth body for peaceful Behdienkhlam
JOWAI: The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO), central body has sent forth its best wishes to the public on the occasion of Behdienkhlam. Vice president of the AJYWO, central body Reachingson Siangshai also urged the public to celebrate the occasion in a responsible manner. “Let us celebrate the occasion of Behdienkhlam with a spirit of humility, responsibility and may you all be blessed throughout your lives. A happy and peaceful Behdienkhlam to all,” he said.
Physical test for GS candidates
Ampati: The Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Selection Committee, South West Garo Hills, Ampati has informed that the physical tests for the post of Gram Sevak and Gram Sevika will be conducted at the Ampati Mini Stadium from September 2 to 5 at 8am.
The physical tests for Gram Sevak candidates will be conducted as per their roll numbers on the following dates: 1 to 426 on September 2, 427 to 852 on September 3 and 853 to 1278 on September 4. Physical tests for candidates bearing roll numbers from 1 to 426 for the post of Gram Sevika will be conducted on September 5. Candidates who do not receive their call letters by August 27 are to collect their letters from the DSC Branch, DC Office in Ampati.
Circle committee
SHILLONG: The Center for Environment Protection and Rural Development (CEPARD) on Friday, formed a new circle committee at at Phulbari, Chibinang during a meeting chaired by CEC president, CEPARD, R Samgar Sangma. The objective of the committee is to seek public support in rooting out problems faced by the people of adjoining areas of Phulbari and Chibinang. The newly formed committee said that the organisation stands for environment protection and rural development which is not an easy task since several problems such as bad roads and deforestation stand in the way of development. The committee also informed that Chibinang is the main junction with regard to timber smuggling due to the presence of active illegal saw mills in the adjacent areas. In this regard, the committee also decided to organise awareness programmes in the area to spread awareness on the negative effects of deforestation. The new circle committee members comprise chief patron SR Sangma, chief convenor P Rudy N Sangma, Phulbari convenor Uttam Kr. Das, president Liku M Sangma, secretary Laswin Ch Marak, organising secretary Homad N Sangma, animal welfare and wildlife secretary Alexer N Sangma, operational co-ordinator Gloringstone Rongma Marak, protocol assistant Probith Cheran and environment co-ordinator Asraff Hoque.
Motivational programme
NONGSTOIN: A one-day motivational programme was held at Tirot Singh Memorial Hall in Pyndenumiong, Mairang on Friday. The programme which aimed at providing employment to each and every household, was presided over by the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Nongstoin, JC Paul in the presence of Block Development Officer, Mairang C&RD Block V Swer, Sub-Divisional Veterinary Officer, Mairang Sub Division S Tham and others. In his address to the gathering, JC Paul said that the main objective of the programme is spread awareness on the formation and organisation of cooperative societies. He said that the programme aims to educate the people about cooperative societies so that they can come forward and register more cooperative societies. Meanwhile, V Swer informed that both Central and state government are focusing on people who are from the weaker sections of society in order to find ways to help them financially.
