HC reinstates Islamia School headmistress

SHILLONG: High Court of Meghalaya has directed the school managing committee of Islamia Secondary School to reinstate the suspended Headmistress Parveen Nongrum.
Nongrum was suspended on the charge of misappropriation of school fund of Rs 80,000 on December 9, 2001and she faced protracted trial for 16 years.
The chief judicial magistrate, Shillong acquitted her on April 27, 2017 but the school authorities did not reinstate her.
In the order on Friday, court of Justice HS Thangkhiew found the action of school managing committee arbitrary.
The court ordered that 75 per cent of her back wages will have to be paid with effect from December 9, 2001, within 8 weeks.
