TURA: A locality body from Tura on Thursday raised questions over the quality of materials being used in the ongoing construction of the P A Sangma Stadium at Dakopgre in Tura and urged Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Banteidor Lyngdoh to look into the matter.

Members of the New Tura development Forum (NTDF) recently carried out an inspection of the construction site where they questioned the size, shape and quality of materials like stones being used including lack of supervision and monitoring during the construction.

According to the forum, good quality stones like those available in the region and approved by the government are not being used in the construction.

“Going by the colour and shape of the stones being used, it appears that they have been brought from somewhere else in the country and not of the quality as approved by the Government of Meghalaya,” the forum said.

Pointing out that during their repeated visits to the construction site they neither met any supervisor nor came across any monitoring of the said work, the forum urged the Sports Minister to direct specialists and experts to monitor the ongoing work and verify the quality of materials being used so that overall quality of work is achieved in the construction.
