Student body pays floral tribute to U Tirot Sing

NONGPOH/SHILLONG: The Khasi Student Union, North Khasi Hills, on Wednesday paid a floral tribute at Krem Tirot to honour the Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem at his secret cave located at Umthlu Nongkhla under Hima Nongkhlaw, West Khasi Hills.
The union was led by its President Ferdinald Kharkamni and General Secretary Lambok Rymbai.
Besides, the leaders and members of KSU, North Khasi Hills District, the programme was also attended by the local headman of Umthlu Nongkhla village, Hilarious Lawrynniang and members of KSU from Mairang, West Khasi Hills District.
Kharkamni said that the union will discuss with the central leaders to initiate with the State government for construction of a memorial stone at his secret cave as a token of respect.
Meanwhile, the HNYF, Northern Region, on Wednesday, led by its president along with the members and the students from JNV, Niangbari, paid a floral tribute to commemorate U Tirot Sing’s 184th death anniversary in the school premises where his statue was erected.
The University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), on Wednesday also observed the 184th death anniversary of U Tirot Sing Syiem at its campus.
The programme began with floral tribute to U Tirot Sing by PK Goswami, Vice Chancellor, USTM, Guest Speaker Solony Bareh, Asst. Professor Nongthalang College, West Jaintia Hills, other dignitaries, faculty members and the university students.
Also, the United Hynniewtrep Movement (UHM) Central Executive Council (CEC) paid floral tribute at the statue of Tirot Sing Syiem on his 184th death anniversary.
