Islamabad: Pakistanis took to social media to hail an army captain, who as part of the military intelligence wing spent three years as a beggar scouring dustbins in restive Balochistan province and was responsible for the “arrest” of alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.
Captain Qadeer Ahmed, who was roped in by the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) to work in Balochistan, has since died in a car accident in 2018.
A day after the International Court of Justice ruled for continued stay on the death sentence of Jadhav and for providing him consular access, Pakistanis praised Captain Qadeer Ahmed “Shaheed” for his role in the “arrest” of Jadhav in March 2016.
India has maintained that Jadhav, a retired Indian naval officer, was abducted while carrying out his business in Iran.
According to reports, Qadeer Ahmed was born to a very rich family but chose a military career against the wishes of his family.
The ISI, seeing his capabilities, inducted him into their wing and sent him to Balochistan province that has been witnessing a pro-freedom agitation by Baloch leaders.
Qadeer Ahmed, according to reports, spent three years in Balochistan as a beggar, attired in dirty tattered clothes.
He slept on the pavement and scoured dustbins, while keeping a watch. Pictures of the young captain in his beggar avatar were doing the rounds on social media.
He died on June 2, 2018, while his car was on way to Khuzdar from Quetta.
A female relative sitting on the passenger seat sustained injuries in the accident in Lakoran area, while Qadeer Ahmed died on the spot.
He was apparently on way home from undercover duty to see his daughter who was ill. (IANS)
