SHILLONG: A forum christened KRIMKRO has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma reiterating on the construction of Polytechnic College at Kapasipara and not at Gasuapara, on Thursday.
The forum stated that the tender notice was not stopped as per request and asserted there is a twist in tender notice which is declared with mala fide intention.
The president of the forum, Tangbath M. Sangma in a statement, said that the meeting with the CM on Thursday turned out to be unsatisfactory.
He said that the CM informed the delegation that he will conduct a meeting regarding the complex issue.
“Although Kapasipara is the original place of construction, the people from other village also demanded the same. So, I will see into it,” Tengbath quoted the CM.
Unhappy with the CM’s response, the forum went to meet the Home Minister, James Sangma for the same purpose and also to discuss the establishment of Police Outpost at Kapasipara which has remained pending for two years.
The minister assured them of constructing the Polytechnic College and establishment of the outpost at Kapasipara at the earliest.
Tengbath said, “If the issue is not resolved before August 15, we will go as per our other plans. We will never tolerate the unofficial re-location of the construction of Polytechnic College at Kapasipara to Gasuapara.”
“Neither the Government of Meghalaya nor Samuel M. Sangma, MLA-Baghmara can prove to us that they have legal documents to shift the construction site”, he added.
Tengbath alleged the tender was allotted to MLA’s wife (contractor) and the government is trying to build the institute at Gasuapara based on the letter sent by Samuel to Education minister, Lahkmen Rymbui on March 15, 2018 wherein he described Kapasipara to be an isolated place and not feasible.
He maintained that Samuel wants to shift the institute against the will of the people of the region.
“We want to know even from the Education Minister as to the authorisation being given on the basis of which documents for the construction of the Polytechnic College at Gasuapara and we will challenge the matter in Court,” President of the forum Tengbath said.
