SHILLONG: The GVK EMRI 108 service has issued a notice to its employees asking them to call off the strike which began on July 18 midnight while reiterating that all strikes by the field staff of GVK EMRI is prohibited as per the Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance (Amendment) Act, 2003.
GVK EMRI said that subsequent to the receipt of the strike notice from some of the field staff of GVK EMRI, a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong was held between the management and field staff earlier this month followed by a meeting between the management and two factions of the field staff.
According to GVK EMRI, the meeting was able to clarify most of the charter of demands barring the one in which the intervention of the Government of Meghalaya is required and another concerning the transfer of a few individuals for which an agreement could not be reached with one faction of the field staff which led to the employees calling for a strike.
A statement from GVK EMRI appealed to the employees on strike to resume their duties and “serve the citizens of the state as has been for the last 10 years”.
It was also informed that that the Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1980 (No. 23 of 1980) along with the Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance (Amendment) Act, 2003, have been promulgated within the state as per notification issued earlier in March this and as such all strikes by field staff of GVK EMRI are prohibited.
“GVK EMRI appeals to its employees to revoke the strike and to return to work and give the management a reasonable time to resolve the pending issues with the Government at the earliest,” the statement said.
