North East food show, SIAL to be held in city

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday held a meeting with officials of various government departments, financial institutions, educational institutions, entrepreneurs and event organisers to chalk out plans to host the Salon International de l’alimentation (SIAL) 2019 in Shillong.
The SIAL is a trade fair held every two years and specialises in the food processing industry.
The event was first conceptualised in France back in 1964 has been held in various member countries that are a part of the SIAL Group Network.
In his opening remarks, Conrad said that the event will give the much needed thrust to promote food processing in the state and the entire region.
Underlining the significance of the upcoming event to farmers and entrepreneurs in gaining access to market linkages and value addition to products, Conrad said that the event will be a catalyst for Meghalaya to emerge as a major food innovation hub in the North-East and the country as well.
The event termed the ‘North East Food Show by Meghalaya and SIAL’ and supported by SIAL India and SIAL International is slated to be organised in the month of December this year in Shillong.
