To Sunday Shillong,

This is in reference to the two articles, ‘Young & concerned’ and ‘Mission possible’, which were published on July 7. Plastic waste is a menace in almost every city in India and with time, the problem is taking a huge form that many people are not aware of or are not concerned about. However, if the problem is not tackled now then it will lead to a severe crisis for human existence. The accumulation of large quantities of plastic waste in the water bodies in the city and on the outskirts is not only endangering aquatic life but is also spoiling the source of fresh water for humans. As pointed out in another article published on July 14, the polluted streams are unable to carry rain water leading to flash floods. The plastic waste in soil is ruining the fertility of the land with long-term consequences. It is time that every citizen takes responsibility and fight against the menace. It is good to know that a group of youngsters and a concerned citizen have realised the extent of the problem and are doing their bit to lessen the impact of plastic on environment. But they need support, both in the form of manpower and funds, and each one of us should come forward to help them. We can also start cleaning drives in our localities on a regular basis and not just on special occasions. We should teach our children not to litter and follow the same ourselves. With everyone’s effort, change is bound to happen and the city will once again regain its charm.

Thanking you
A concerned citizen

To Sunday Shillong,

I am a regular reader of the Sunday Shillong supplement and I really appreciate the varied topics which are covered in the section of the newspaper. However, I find little space for music in the supplement. There are not many articles on music. Though music is my personal interest I think many readers will like to read articles on the topic as Shillong is the place for music. More local artistes should be featured. I request Sunday Shillong to bring out interesting stories about music and musicians.

Thanking you
A music lover
