SHILLONG: In a major haul, the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of East Khasi Hills police which was revamped recently with new officers, seized 529 grams of heroin worth over Rs one crore in the street market.
Informing this, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Claudia Lyngwa said that the seizure of 529 grams of heroin was made from a lady in Madanrting locality in the city
The lady who is a supplier, hails from Manipur
Stating that the newly revamped ANTF is focusing on the supply line, Lyngwa said that if they could control the supply line they were hopeful that they could control the drug menace.
Stressing on the need of the society to cooperate with the police to make sure that the culprits are booked as per law, Lyngwa said that Narcotic Drugs and Pyschotropic Substance Act does not take cognizance only seizure by police and that it states that every seizure must have witnesses.
She further requested for the assistance of the Rangbah shnongs and added that without independent witness their hands are tied.
On the other hand, SDPO Sadar, Jagpal Singh said that apart from areas like Madanrting, Mawlai, Jhalupara, Polo, the menace is not about localities anymore as it has spread far out putting and all of them behind the bar is not a solution.
It may be mentioned that as per available records with the police there are around 11,000 drug injectors among the many who use it in different forms.
The Police now have also decided to take action against those land lords whose property are being used for criminal activities under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,
He said that the police would now register case against those house owners as per section 25 of the NDPS Act if their premises are being used for criminal activities under NDPS and they will be treated as abettors
