SHILLONG/Tura: With the ongoing celebrations of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, many activities have taken place across the state with utter zeal and enthusiasm.
In the city, a blood donation camp in collaboration with NEIGRIHMS and Meghalaya AIDS Control Society was organised by BSF on Tuesday at FTR HQ BSF Meghalaya.
Speaking at the event, the IG emphasised the importance of blood donation stating that one unit of blood donated by one individual can save life of four persons. So, this is the best donation one can do and that is why blood donation is called ‘Raqt Dan Mahadan’.
Meanwhile, the officers and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Tuesday celebrated the annual Kargil Vijay Diwas by organising a blood donation camp in collaboration with the Tura Civil Hospital at the sector headquarters of the force in Dobasipara, Tura.
“The objective of the camp was to propagate the significance of blood donation in saving lives, and to generate awareness about the need of blood. By organising the camp, BSF has ensured its social commitments for the people in its service to the nation,” said BSF’s Deputy Inspector General of Sector HQ VK Thapliyal, as he took part in an awareness drive motivating the jawans to participate in such noble causes even in the future.
As many as 58 units of blood were donated by the BSF officers and personnel during the camp.
Doctors and medical staff of the civil hospital expressed their gratitude and appreciated the enthusiasm of the BSF soldiers who came forward to donate for the noble cause.
Besides, drawing and painting competitions were also conducted at BOP Dawki and Jaliakhola of 30 Bn BSF of Meghalaya Ftr where 71 school children along with 7 BSF personnel participated.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated for the success of Operation Vijay when on July 26, 1999, Indian troops successfully took command of the high posts in Kargil after flushing out Pakistani intruders in a 60-day war known as the Kargil War. The war ended with India regaining control of all the previously-held territory.
