Assam flood toll mounts to 81, water level on receding trend

GUWAHATI:  Five more lives have been lost in Assam due to flood during the last 24 hours taking the death toll up to 81 including two deaths due to landslide.

Meanwhile, water levels in all districts are receding in last 24 hours. As onFriday, 2,078 villages in 61 revenue circles of 17 districts arehaving flood waters affecting a population of 27, 15, 184, according to information gathered from Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Presently, 768numbers of Relief Camps are operational in the districts of Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat and Jorhat districts with 1,58,896inmates and 161 Relief Distribution Centres in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Bongaigaon,  Kokrajhar,  Kamrup and Morigaon.

 Five persons lost their lives due to flood in the districts of Baksa (2), Barpeta (1), Cachar (1) and Biswanath (1) in last 24 hours.

Water level of Rivers at Red mark: Brahmaputra at Neamatighat (Jorhat) and Dhubri, Jia Bharali at N.T. Road Crossing (Sonitpur), Puthimariat N.H. Road. Crossing (Kamrup); and Bekiat Road Bridge (Barpeta).
