Assam Govt modifies order on release of declared foreigners

GUWAHATI: The political department (border) of the Assam government vide a fresh notification has added some provisions for conditional release of declared foreigners from detention centres in partial modification of the earlier notification dated June 17, 2019.
Accordingly, under sub-para (iii), the home and political department of the state government may release declared foreigners who have completed more than three years in detention centres on certain conditions.
The conditions include execution of bond with two sureties of Rs 1 lakh each of Indian citizens, specification of the verifiable address of stay after release, storage of biometric of his or her iris (if possible) and all ten finger prints and photos in a secured database before release from the detention centres.
The released declared foreigners shall report once every week to the police station specified by the home and political department and shall notify any change of address to the specified police station on the same day.
Moreover, a quarterly report would have to be submitted by the superintendent of police (border) to the home and political department regarding appearance of such released declared foreigners to the concerned police station.
“In case of violation of the condition, the declared foreign national will be apprehended and detained at the detention centre,” an official statement issued here on Tuesday said.
