Debate in local language allowed by Roy

SHILLONG: In a first, it was Donkupar Roy who allowed debate in local language for the first time in the Assembly. Opposition Chief Whip P T Sawkmie said on Thursday that after the former Governor Ganga Prasad addressed the House in Hindi last year, there was a debate on the use of local language by the legislators.
Later Roy allowed the legislators to speak in Khasi and Garo languages and even suggested the need to have an interpreter.
The members of the School Managing Committee, teachers, office staff and students of Anath Ashram Secondary School,Mawprem mourned the demise of Meghalaya Assembly Speaker,Donkupar Roy and observed two-minute silence for his soul and to provide strength to the bereaved family.
The members of the Relief and Rehabilitation Colony Welfare Society and the residents of R &R colony convey their condolences to the bereaved family members of Meghalaya Assembly Speaker, Dr Donkupar Roy who passed away on Sunday.
