HANM inspects health centre
Mawkyrwat: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Thursday conducted an inspection at the Mawkyrwat Community Health Centre (CHC) after receiving numerous complaints stating that patients were facing a problems due to congestion. During the inspection, HANM members discovered that many patients were forced to sleep on the floor due to shortage of beds. It was also discovered that besides other needs that the CHC lacks, the most important thing that patients complained about is the shortage of water. Speaking to reporters, patients informed that they were not at all happy to sleep in the chairs but are forced to do so as they have no other option. They also said that there are many who go back to their villages or to other hospitals in Shillong because of the shortage of beds at the CHC. President of HANM Mawkyrwat Circle Lambokstar Marwein said that it is sad to see that the patients have to sleep on the floor. “Instead of getting healthcare by coming to this hospital, they instead have to suffer,” Marwein lamented. In this connection, Marwein requested the government to speed up the construction work for the 100 bed hospital in Mawkyrwat in order to ease the problems of the people in South West Khasi Hills. He also requested the Health Department to ensure sufficient drinking water and dustbins in the CHC.

Unidentified men torch vehicle
TURA: Police are investigating claims made by a man whose vehicle was torched by unidentified miscreants who also opened fire on him at Dingok bazaar near Bajengdoba on Tuesday night even though investigations appear to rule it out. Claybirth Marak of Raja Apal village in Bajengdoba filed an FIR with Bajengdoba police on Wednesday alleging that a group of men assaulted him, fired in the air and later torched his Maruti Alto when he stopped at Dingok bazaar on Tuesday evening to relieve himself. In his FIR, Marak claimed that he was returning to his home in Raja Apal from Mendipathar market and had halted at Dingok bazaar located on the main highway when five unidentified men accosted him and began assaulting him. He fled and returned the next morning only to find his vehicle burnt. However, police sources reveal that although the torching of his vehicle appeared to be true, there has been no indication or evidence to connect the case to any firing incident. Police are not ruling out other angles to the story and have cast doubts on the version given by the ‘victim’ since the incident occurred way beyond his home turf of Raja Apal.
