SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday called upon stakeholders in the education sector not to forget their raison de’ etre which is to shape the younger generation to be the champions of the future.
He was speaking at the 33rd Biennial General Conference of Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) as the Chief Guest at St Anthony’s College.
Addressing the Inaugural session, Sangma, while congratulating MCTA for its contribution towards the cause of college teachers, students and the education sector as a whole, said that it is important for all stakeholders in the education sector not to forget the important objective of shaping the younger generations to be the champions of the future.
“While it is important to maintain and improve the quality of education, motivate the teachers and give them the right infrastructure and service conditions, it is important for all stakeholders in the education sector to remember why we are here, to mould, guide and shape the future of the students,” he said.
He added the government is aware and concerned about the challenges in the education sector and committed to address those issues and challenges.
“For India the youth is our greatest challenge and the greatest resource and if we all stakeholders can do our part we will become a great nation and to see that our state Meghalaya surges ahead,” he said.
Earlier, Sangma also felicitated the retired college teachers during the occasion.
Among others who spoke during the inaugural session were Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui , President, MCTA, B H Buam, Vice Principal, St Anthony’s College, Fr J Nongskeh and Vice President, MCTA, M Tariang.
