GH bodies seek response on official’s transfer
TURA: Organisations from South Garo Hills have sought a reply from the government on the reports of transfer of current Additional Deputy Commissioner Charming N Sangma from the district.
Several organisations from the district including the GSU, ADE, A’kim Saldora Society, Gasuapara Area Citizens’ Forum and CEPARD along with Nokmas and the general public recently held a meeting on the issue and decided to take steps to stop the transfer.
During the meeting, it was resolved that the government must reply to the demands and clarify on the matter within seven days, failing which the organisations, along with the people, could resort to agitation.
It may be mentioned that recently, the organisations had submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma requesting that the transfer of the senior official is put on hold. However, the government is yet to serve any intimation on the matter to the organisations.

Two go missing from city
SHILLONG: A person namely Rosomala Barmon has filed a police complaint that on July 6, Manoranjan Rai alias Gullab Rai went to fetch his niece Bopi Barmon (20) who was working at M/s Singhania Printing Press and took her along with him on the pretext of visiting his wife, who happens to be her aunt. However, till date, they did not return and the whereabouts is still not known.

MLCU holds two-day workshop
SHILLONG: The Psychology Department of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) in collaboration with Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, USA organised a two-day workshop on Cultural Competence and Evidence Based Practices in Mental Health on the on Thursday and Friday at its premises. The facilitators were Christ University professors Baiju Gopal, Tony Sam George and Elizabeth Thomas.
The workshop was organised with an objective to sensitise the mental health professionals to approach mental health issues in a culturally relevant manner without losing its evidence base.
During the two days, the resource persons briefed the participants on the process of examining cultural influences on a person’s self-development and his or her interactions with others.
The participants were also enlightened about the importance of recognising the interface between psychology and culture in Indian context and the need to recognise the cultural context of assessment and other tools, and apply cultural competence and evidence-based approach in therapeutic contexts. The ultimate goal that should be aimed at is to care for clients in the best possible manner, always keeping their best interest at the fore.

Two JE patients at NEIGRIHMS
SHILLONG: Two Japanese Encephalitis (JE) patients are undergoing treatment at NEIGRIHMS.
An official said on Friday that there has been no new case of JE patients and the two patients are under treatment in the institute for quite some time.
Another person who is suspected to be suffering from JE is also admitted in the institute but JE is yet to be confirmed.
Most of the patients, who have been admitted, are from Assam.

Man killed in accident
NONGSTOIN: A man was killed after being hit by a vehicle in West Khasi Hills.
On the night of July 30, Kresin Ryntathiang (50) was hit by the vehicle bearing a registration No ML-05D8502 driven by Skhemlang L Nonglait of Madan Maroid. As a result the pedestrian died on the spot.
A case has been registered and the driver was arrested.

Cattle seized
SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel deployed at Hawaitilla BOP on Wednesday seized 21 cattle during a patrolling.
It was found out that the cattle was intended for smuggling purposes along the International Border falling under Muktapur PP jurisdiction.
It has also been requested to the owners concerned to approach Muktapur PP at the earliest.
