SHILLONG: The Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) comprising of regional parties in the MDA Government on Monday elected Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh as its new chairman following the demise of former chairman, Dr Donkupar Roy
Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, member of the RDA after the meeting told reporters that it was the duty of RDA members to elect the new chairman following the demise of Donkupar Roy even as he added that the alliance renewed its commitment to work together in the government.
“We will meet at least once in a month and if needed we can meet more frequently,” he said.
Reacting to a query about the formation of new alliance in the MDA, he said that it was the internal matter of People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and he had nothing to comment.
“We should not panic when this kind of situation come and there lies the maturity of the person and especially elected members should be more strong at this time when we have just lost our leader. In fact, we should come forward and carry the bond forward,” he said
When asked about the Speaker’s post which is lying vacant following the demise of Roy, he said that the party would sit and decide on who should be new speaker of the Meghalaya while making it clear that it is UDP which will take the call on the post of Speaker but by taking other friends into confidence.
“We feel that since Dr Donkupar Roy was holding the post, it will be appropriate for us elect a leader from our side to be the new Speaker,” he added
As far as the post of the UDP president is concern, he said that the party would take the decision to elect the right person to replace Dr Donkupar Roy
