SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) MDCs have said stringent measures would be initiated by the government to prevent mortification of women in social media.
The reaction comes in the wake of People’s Democratic Front (PDF) MDC Macdalyn S. Mawlong’s photo on social media drawing derogatory comments.
Speaking to the press, Independent MDC Lambor Malniang appreciated the swift action to arrest the culprit but also called for speedy disposal of the case.
Asked about the other pending cases of such crimes against women, he said the government should bring strict laws to ensure that such instances do not take place. He will seek the assistance of the government to address the pending cases.
Other MDCs present were Gigur Myrthong and Latiplang Kharkongor.
On the other hand, the Lyngdoh Mawlong clan has condemned the reprehensible act of tarnishing the image of one of its members.
They also expressed its gratitude to the officers of the Laitumkhrah Police Station for their efficiency in arresting the culprit, Benjamin Syiemlieh of Mawpat village, and urged the concerned authorities to mete out appropriate justice under law.
