SHILLONG/TURA: The All Khasi Hills A’chik Federation (AKHAF) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma urging him to look into the upgradation of infrastructure in the bordering areas of West and South West Khasi Hills districts.
In their memorandum to the chief minister, the organisation raised several issues which included upgradation of roads and bridges, health facilities and education besides others.
Stating that the single-link road from Shillong to most of the border villages located under East and South West Khasi Hills districts has deteriorated overtime, the federation sought the immediate repair of sections of the road from Nayapara to Gulsora via Sodarkuna, Kottapara to Gulsora and Ranikor to Moheskola.
Informing that the Khonjoy PHC in South West Khasi Hills is yet to be functional despite its completion few years ago, the organisation has urged the government to make it operational for the benefit of the people.
They also pointed out the lack of facilities such as X-Ray machine, scanning machine, nurses, regular doctors in Ranikor CHC.
Turning towards safety and security of border areas, the organisation said a police outpost should be establish at Khonjoy and Moheskola.
With regard to telecommunication, the organisation maintained that the people in the border areas are using Bangladesh network or mobile phone which is very expensive and requested the construction of BSNL or other companies to mobile tower to meet the needs of the people.
AKHAF has called for construction of tourist places. On the education front, they said the youth in the border areas of South West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and East Khasi Hills remain illiterate and drop-out rate is also very high.
AKHAF has placed a proposal for new national highway from Moheskola connecting Riangdo Boko Highway via Shallang, to expedite the construction of Ranikor Civil Sub-Division and deployment of enough officers. The organization has also requested the construction of Garo community Hall-cum-guest house at an affordable rate.
