Fish farming to uplift economy

Nongpoh: Fisheries Minister, Comingone Ymbon visited Ri Bhoi and had a review meeting with the Fisheries Department on Wednesday. The meeting was held at Conference Hall, Nongpoh.
During the meeting, Ymbon said the motive of the department is to produce more fish so as to promote and uplift the economy of the people of the state.
He added that in order to promote the development of fish farming in the state, setting up of eco-hatcheries at different locations is very necessary as Ri Bhoi has a good climate. The fisheries minister suggested to surplus a number of eco-hatcheries with high numbers of fish fingerling seeds at different block levels so as to cater the requirement of fish seeds in the district and the state as well.
He directed the officials of the department of the district to submit the report related with the status of the schemes implemented for the benefit of the fish farmers.
He also urged officials to take up the schemes seriously. Schemes like construction of fish ponds should be done after properly screening of its feasibility to free government funds from wastage.
Ymbon further stated that fish farming has become a good source of livelihood and income for people in rural areas. He directed the fisheries’ officials to stay in touch with farmers and to encourage them through awareness programmes about various governmental projects.
