SHILLONG: With the ongoing problem faced by the Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union, the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) have extended their support to their plight and demanded that the Health department of the state government should take over the administration of the EMRI 108 service.
In a statement issued here, the JSU central body said the demand emanated since the expenditure for EMRI is mainly from the state government and the Centre through the National Health Mission (NHM).
President of Shillong circle Treiborlang R Suchen said it would not be difficult for the state government to administer the EMRI 108 services and asserted that the state government should improve the services provided by it.
The organisation maintained that the state government should retain the services of the present employees of the EMRI.
The state government has asked the GVK EMRI management to resolve the issues with the Meghalaya GVK-EMRI Workers Union.
Sources from the union said the state government has asked the GVK EMRI management to maintain status quo.
The source added that while maintaining status quo, the management cannot transfer or send their staff to attend any training programme.
However, the management flouted the status quo and instead directed the staff to go for six-months training. Besides salaries were also being deducted.
