NONGSTOIN: The Mairang police has arrested Braian Sohshang of Mawdong village under West Khasi Hills for marrying an underage girl.
Sources said that the 16-year-old minor was married to Braian since January this year. In the month of July, the girl was hospitalized at Nazareth Hospital, Shillong as she was sick.
After a few days the girl was discharged from the hospital and the Medical officer found out that she was only 16-years-old so a question was raised about the early marriage issue. The MO instructed the father to file an FIR against the marriage considering it is illegal as she is underage.
In connection with the case the Mairang Police has registered the case under case no. 30 (08) 19 u/s 3 (A) /4 PF POCSO Act and the investigation is on.
